Could anything ever persuade
The fatalistic fundamentalists,
Who literalize and finalize
Their respective sacred texts
And in practice reject both cosmological
And spiritual evolution,
That, since humanity is free to choose
Between good and evil,
It can in fact prevent
The so-called End of Days?
In short,
Could some event in the “Holy Land”
Convince these sincere believers
(As opposed to racist fascists,
Who simply wish to dominate)
That, despite our dualistic psyche,
Since we also contain
An indivisible Divine spark,
Or Soul,
In God’s eyes we are all equal;
And, therefore, universal democracy –
Not theocratic or Messianic dictatorship –
Should be our ideal?
The answer:
The birth of a democratic
And ecumenical
Palistrael.
