The Wild Garden

Michael Peach

Whether it has been planted there by God
I know not, but the foremost image of wholeness,
Or Self, which will arise in this new age
From the prophetic soul of the wide world,
Or the collective unconscious, will be that
Of the Wild Garden. Thus will urban minds
Finally grasp the meaning of The Fall –
Conceived by former desert residents
Nostalgic for their green and cool oases,
Where nature bloomed, although indeed confined,
And humble folk could see the prints of God.
