I’m much too vulnerable and immature
To directly be of help to fellow souls;
Too self-absorbed, intense and insecure
To spare the time or thought for other goals.
The best I can achieve is not to harm,
And through my verse to advocate the good:
For thus at times I earn myself some calm,
And don’t commit those sins I feel I would.
The “good”, moreover, which I choose to show
Is that revealed in our Creation Myth,
And, though I have no garden, this I know:
Within the Soul fair “Eden” is the pith.
O, may my words a glimpse to adults give
Of truths all uncorrupted children live.
