For Tamar (2)

Michael Peach

To come down each morn
And find
That you no longer are
The single apple of our eye
Is a heartfelt loss
Which can be recompensed
Solely by growing up.

For, as would Israel
Unto newborn nations,
In renouncing only-childship
And rising to the heights
Of elder sisterhood
You, resplendent moonchild,
Would send forth Light.
