Jerusalem (3)

Michael Peach

I pray the new Jerusalem
Will be indeed a holy place,
Where each the urge to kill shall stem
And covet not his neighbour’s space.

But fear I do that soon we’ll see
The mosques upon The Mount destroyed
By zealots hoping they might be
In some Third Temple’s rites employed.

No doubt the Muslims would react
By launching a jihad outright;
And thus the peace most Jews had backed
Would be engulfed by darkest night.
