Mother Russia’s Potential

Michael Peach

Were Russia governed not by ruthless men
But empathetic folk who sanction peace,
Democracy and freedom would flourish then
And invasion of her neighbours at once would cease.
For Putin’s lust for empire is clearly seen
By all enlightened souls as will to power –
A patriarchal urge that has always been
Their bane since fools erected Babel Tower.
In time Ukrainian kids would play again;
The dogs would wag their friendly tails and romp;
Birds blithely sing in sunshine, snow or rain;
Cows dream in pastures while they slowly chomp.
++Thus Russia would at last have earned her place
++As partner here on Earth and in outer space.
