Owning One’s Shadow

Michael Peach

It’s not so difficult ourselves to free
From self-destructive guilt and jealous spite
For being what we are, if we can see
Our darkness is as natural as our light.

This truth, alas, the wary ego blocks –
Until it can accept its share of strife
And also, thus, embrace the paradox
One’s shadow known and owned may save one’s life.
