Shakespeare (16)

Michael Peach

If “mercy seasons justice” is the heart
Of William’s creed regarding human sin –
Providing penance true performs its part,
Like him we ought with Yeshu to begin:
For, though no doubt apocalyptic, he
In practice taught the truths of natural law;
And though to him the terms psychology
And art were Greek, he wielded metaphor.
In short, like Will, that poet-healer earned
Through empathy the wholeness of a sage;
And when this fact the Christian world has learned,
With Shakespeare’s help, it too will come of age.
++The strong and wholesome person spares the rod,
++And doing so becomes a child of God.
