The Pregnant Poet

Michael Peach

Like impregnation, inspiration thrills
And verse conceived by images or thoughts
One’s deep creative impulse so fulfills
That all but this the poet oft aborts.
Thus intercourse between oneself and kin –
Indeed, response to any human kind –
Unless related to the fruit within,
Is by such introversion undermined.
Three days ago, however, I was blessed
By revelation of another type:
A synchronicity, which so impressed
I feel the time for dialogue is ripe.
If not a menopause and era new,
It seems at least a monopause is due.
