To S.R.W.

Michael Peach

For more than forty years my soul was wrought
Upon the dual altar Isaac knew:
At times unbound, at others truly caught
And forced to choose between two points of view.
Hence I in less than half a century,
Amidst the nation chosen for this role,
Lived out four thousand years of history
And glimpsed the One that Israel will extol.
For, though Divinity is most defined
In Abrahamic faiths by priest and scribe,
Eventually the Jews at large will find
The God the greatest prophets best describe.
So, due not least to you whom this I send,
I feel my task at last has reached its end.
